A Creative Weekend of Arts and Sharing

This weekend several signature events are happening throughout the District of Columbia, artDC runs from April 27 - 30, 2007 with most events at the Washington Convention Center.
Why artDC? The website states with 80 international galleries from across the globe, and a host of curators, museum directors, educators and arts professionals tapped to share knowledge—seeks to reach a new generation of arts enthusiasts who join the world’s passionate buyers of painting, prints, sculpture, photography, and new media works.
Some events are free; great way to expose youth and you the creative capital right here in our nation's capital.
Wanna know what happens when a wiki meets creativity in physical space? You get a community of sharing and learning bursting at the seems. Also this weekend area residents have a chance to attend a free workshop from greening your home to frying turkeys through the first-ever Learnapalooza this April 27th in Adams Morgan, DuPont, H Street, Chinatown and more neighborhoods.

Now we know it's hard to find anything free in the District. So take the opportunity and venture to one or two of the 60-plus workshops are hosted by area residents giving back to the community. Find a workshop to meet your needs at http://www.learnapaloozadc.com/

I would be remissed not to mention Servathon which is headed by Greater DC Cares which is a one day event. And if you haven't volunteered for Servathon before consider now or mark your calendar for next year and organize a team of volunteers.

And lastly don't miss the Sketches of Inspiration hosted by Creative Cause and Influence PR. Come make a postcard of hope for Katrina and Virginia Tech survivors from 2-4pm at Kogan Plaza. Just take the Foggy Bottom metro and walk to H btwn 21st and 22nd Streets. Find exact directions by metro at www.wmata.com. So a lot of creativity and causes are happening throughout the district, so plan for one of the events or more if you can.
